Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold’s chipset revealed

Samsung is preparing to launch its first tri-fold smartphone this year, which could mark a major leap in foldable technology. Recently, the name “Galaxy Z TriFold” surfaced after Samsung registered the trademark in Korea, signaling that the company is getting close to unveiling the device officially. This will be Samsung’s most ambitious foldable yet, following the success of its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lines.

The chipset powering this innovative device has now been revealed through lines of code found in Samsung’s One UI 8, based on Android 16. The Galaxy Z TriFold will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, the same powerful processor found in the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold7. This ensures flagship-level performance to support the larger screen and potentially more demanding multitasking features of the tri-fold design.

Leaks suggest the Galaxy Z TriFold will feature a roughly 10-inch inner display when fully unfolded, offering a tablet-like experience. Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which was the world’s first tri-fold, Samsung’s version is expected to include a separate cover screen. Further, enhancing usability when the device is folded. This design choice could make the TriFold more versatile and user-friendly in day-to-day use.

However, innovation will come at a cost. The Galaxy Z TriFold is rumored to be priced around KRW 4 million, which translates to approximately $2,873 or €2,469. On top of the hefty price tag, availability might also be limited. Early indications suggest Samsung could launch the device exclusively in Korea and China at first. Potentially delaying a wider global release.
