Apple may flip the cell phone market with the debut of its foldable iPhone 18 in 2026, marking a major shift in its iPhone release strategy. According to The Information, a report from American tech magazine, Apple plans to stagger the launch of the iPhone 18 series to accommodate the introduction of its first-ever foldable device. Unlike previous years, the standard iPhone 18 and the successor to the iPhone 16e are expected to be pushed to spring 2027. This revised timeline is reportedly aimed at easing pressure on manufacturing and marketing teams, allowing the company to better manage resources and focus attention on its new form factor.

The premium iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are still expected to debut in the traditional autumn window, potentially alongside a new iPhone 18 Air and Apple’s first foldable model. The foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a book-style design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, with a 5.5-inch outer display and a nearly 8-inch internal screen for enhanced multitasking. It may include a titanium frame, a slim profile (4.5mm when open, 9mm folded), and a dual-camera system. To conserve space, Apple might replace Face ID with Touch ID embedded in the power button, while the Pro models could adopt under-display Face ID, reducing visible sensors to just a small camera cutout.
