i was little hesitant before order but i took the risk and paid in advance to get 10 Percent Discount. To be my surprise, Delivery was very fast, received Parcel within 36 hours. one thing that surprised me that i was expecting an old model with micro USB but this Ravpower File hub is an updated version and has a Type C port. Now I can say these Guys are running One of the Few trusted E-Commerce Sites in Pakistan.
I use this to extend WiFi signal and back up files!! It’s awesome
Excellent small device. You can configure and upgrade firmware all from iPad.On your iPad, download new firmware first. The devices built in version is 08 but the latest version is 18 11/30/2019.Turn on device and access 10.10.10.254 to upgrade firmware. Don’t connect to internet while upgrading firmware. The new firmware works better than the old one. You can configure device with old firmware or new one.
Overall, my only complaint is the original set up was bit confusing. After toying with for little over 5 min, I got it set up and working perfectly. The built-in battery was a selling point for me when comparing to other travel routers out there. The battery was at red at the 8th hour of constant wifi usage so pretty good battery.
working as expected
There's so much good to say about the RAVPower file hub.A great product can be useless-- especially if you're of an age to where you didn't grow up with electronics (we had transistor radios)-- if the customer service fails. Not the case with RAVPower. I am traveling abroad, and although I had no trouble, with some practice, setting up the FH as a bridge (in other words, unsecured & unrestricted hotel wifi--> FH--> secure wifi signal--> my devises) in the states, I couldn't get it to work in Europe. I emailed customer support and within hours, literally overnight, had gotten a lengthy response. Turns out, as it often does, it was something I had failed to do. But the point is, customer service was on top if it. And for those, like me, who know *how* to use fancy stuff like the FH, but lack the jargon vocabulary, customer service never assumes I'm ******, nor talks over my head. Now to the File Hub, as a file hub. It's awesome. With an SD card, a stick drive, an external hard drive, I was able to back up everything from everywhere. I do recommend though that you use File Hub Plus app and not the File Hub App which is a bit clunky in terms of user interface. While the FH is marketed toward backing up things from your tablet or iPad and other mobile devises, it doesn't take much to move many files from a laptop to the file hub via an SD card. Redundant backups. And unlike backing to to just an external drive, whose contents you cannot access on a mobile devise, you can see what files are stored internally and externally on the FH.Right now, though, the FH really shines as way to have secure internet access in unsecured places. Through the FH Plus app, I connected FH to the unsecured hotel wifi, and then connected my iPad to FH wifi. Once that was initially set up, FH connects to the hotel's wifi and broadcasts to all of our devises. Importantly, my MacBook Pro sees the signal, and so long as I know the FH password, all I need do is connect to RAVPower File Hub 2G... And it does this even if my iPad itself isn't connected to the FH!
Main use case I bought this for was streaming movies. It cannot stream most 720p -- stutters to the point where they are not watchable. It is nice having access to other files like music, but again, it was the movies streaming I really bought it for. UI does need an update too (and have it rotate with screen please). Otherwise, it is just ok. Seems like the only other option is the Hoo Too -- same company -- and same poor throughput from what I've read.
I had a HooToo battery/travel router that was great. At some point, they took down the support page so I figured they had end-of-lifed it, and ceased support & updates. So I looked and found this one, from RavPower, which is a company that turns out very good stuff. I've been buying their stuff for years and very happy about it.I was surprised to find that other than the superior form factor, this uses the same underlying OS/Firmware as the HooToo. Which is fine-- it gets the job done, even though it looks like it was written/designed in 1999.I noticed that they repaired the HooToo support page, so you have 2 very good choices for a travel router. This one sits flatter in a bag, so is the superior choice in my opinion.
